AFI spearheads planning for Enabling Education Communities

“Education for all.” Backstopped by this vision, different sectors in Ligao City underwent a Core Group Planning for Enabling Education Communities (EEC) sponsored by the Ayala Foundation Incorporated (AFI), held at La Terraza Restaurant, Tuburan, Ligao City last September 1, 2011.

The Core Group Planning is a one-day activity aimed to bring together various sectors in the community and formulate a three-year plan focusing on the City’s most pressing issues in the Education sector. It was facilitated by Mr. Mario A. Deriquito, the Senior Director of AFI, himself.

EEC is a project under AFI that recognizes the important and critical role of local communities in planning and implementing programs on education.

Ligao City celebrates for being top performing cityThe Department of Agriculture, being aware of the fact that Philippines is a country that largely depends on agriculture, explores every possibility of coming up with projects and programs slanted towards increasing agricultural productivity and alleviating the well-being of the farming communities. Presently, an inititaitive to integrate upland production system in agricutlural projects is being given due importance. One of which is the Sustainable Upland Farming Through the Establishment of Barangay Sagip Saka (Conservation Farming Villages Project- CFVs), which is currently implemented by Bicol University- College of Agriculture and Forestry (BUCAF) in partnership with Ligao City.


Ligao City Elementary Schools ready to use Cellphones for Instruction

The use of cellular phones in classrooms were once banned in schools, but with Ligao City’s Text2Teach Program, cellphones are now powerful tools for instruction.

The Local Government Unit (LGU), along with other partner organizations, recently launched the Text2Teach Program that grants Text2Teach-enabled Nokia N86 8MP phones to various public schools in Ligao City.

The program was conceptualized by various organizations namely: Globe Telecom, Nokia, Ayala Foundation, Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Center for Educational Innovation and Technology (Seameo- Innotech), Department of Education (DepEd), and the LGU of Ligao City, under Mayor Linda P. Gonzalez. It is a program that recognizes the importance of ICT tools in educating pupils especially the young ones.


The LPG Seed Program (Ligao Participatory Governance for Social, Economic and Enterprise Development)

lpg image1Poverty is widely considered as the most menacing developmental problem that is observed and felt in every community. With the aim to combat or at least lessen the poverty incidence in Ligao City, Mayor Linda P. Gonzalez conceptualized the Ligao Participatory Governance for Social, Economic and Enterprise Developmen, also dubbed as the LPG Seed Program.
