Overwhelmed and privileged- two indomitable words to describe how propitious Ligao City was after having been visited by Queen Sofia of Spain, the first ever-high foreign dignity to mark her steps in the city.
With hundreds of people, especially students crowding the city’s streets last July 4, 2012 to welcome genuinely Her Majesty, the drizzly weather turned out to be a wonderful blessing in bearing witness to the queen’s arrival.
Queen Sofia inaugurated the Albay dialysis Center at Josefina Belmonte Duran Memorial Hospital. Said hospital is one of the recipients of the several funded projects from the Spanish government through the Agencia Espanola de Internacional para el Desarollo (AECID). Prior to this, the queen motored to Albay Penarada Park, where she and Governor Joey Salceda unveiled the life-size statue of Jose Ma. Penaranda, the first Spanish Governor of Albay; and, visited Camalig North Central School and evacuation center.
The last leg of the queen’s itinerary was a visit at the Climate Change Academy at Bicol University, Legazpi City. After this, her next stop will be at Zamboanga City.
